The Pekin Pride Festival began with a simple, yet transformative idea. While the LGBTQ+ community often finds vibrant representation, resources, and sprawling celebrations in larger metropolitan centers, that same visibility is frequently absent from smaller, rural communities. For many living outside big cities, this lack of presence can foster a sense of isolation. What if that vibrant celebration of identity, love, and acceptance was extended to smaller towns? What if it happened right here in Pekin, Illinois?

From a Wish to a Reality

Instead of waiting for change to arrive, our founder and Rural Equality Project Executive Director, Zoey Carter, decided to take action. Driven by the belief that everyone deserves to feel safe, acknowledged, and celebrated in their own hometown, Zoey transformed a wish into a grassroots movement.

Now entering our second year, we are not just continuing the tradition—we are expanding on that foundational promise of representation. The festival has grown, finding its home in the heart of our city at the beautiful Mineral Springs Park.

The park's welcoming green spaces provide the perfect, scenic backdrop for a day dedicated to joy, education, and unity. Building on the momentum of our first year, the festival elevates the experience by offering a comprehensive celebration:
